Noonan Earns Championship With Third Win Of Year!
With his third UMP Late Model Feature win of the season, Casey Noonan captured the unofficial UMP Late Model track championship at Oakshade Raceway on Saturday night.
Noonan trailed Tyler Boggs by just two points in as they began the final night of point competition. After the night’s heat events, the two drivers found themselves tied for the point lead going into the feature event.
Brad Eitniear led the first four laps of that 30-lap Season Championship UMP Late Model Feature and then fell off the pace on the backstretch, retiring to the pits and turning the lead over to Casey Noonan.
Noonan went on to lead the rest of the caution-free event all the way to the checkered flag. Tyler Boggs, meanwhile, had worked up into the top five but then coasted to a stop in the infield as he took the white flag ending his championship hopes.
Dona Marcoullier from Houghton Lake, Michigan narrowly edged out Rick Delong for a second place finish. Phil Ausra finished fourth and Rusty Schlenk ended up fifth after transferring in to the feature by winning his consi in a borrowed ride.
Matt Lindsey led the entire distance of an exciting UMP Sportsman Feature to earn his fifth win of the year.
Brett Miller, Mike Jessen and Tim Line made things interesting for second as they exchanged positions often in the closing laps just behind Lindsey. Tim Line won the battle for second, beating Brett Miller and Mike Jessen back to the line for second. Brian Fisher finished fifth.
Since Lindsey had Hoosier tires on all four wheels and won the feature, he was awarded the Ruhlman Race Cars Hoosier Tire Bonus $50 gift certificate.
Danny Hogrefe and Jeff Foks battled hard for the lead early in the UMP Bomber A Main with Hogrefe eventually getting the advantage.
Hogrefe then would retire to the pits under a lap six caution for a spin by Craig Dippman. That turned the lead over to Todd Silvey who held on to win his first feature of the year.
Joe Overmyer was closing in on Silvey late in the race but ran out of laps and had to settle for second. Jeff Foks slipped back to finish third ahead of Tony Tolles and Curt Lancaster.
Dylan Herman, Drew Smith and Derek Morris battled for the lead in the first half of the UMP Hornet Feature event with Morris eventually getting by both drivers.
The fourteen-year-old driver, Derek Morris, went on to win his third feature of the year. Drew Smith finished second with Dylan Herman ending up third. Josh Froelich and Dylan Burt rounded out the rest of the top five finishers.
Kyle Light led the first part of the UMP Bomber B Main until Dan Plath caught him and passed him on the high side to take the lead on lap eight.
A spin by Jeremiah Floyd late in the race set up a two lap shootout to the checkered flag. Plath held off Light to win his first feature of the year. Rick Dixon finished third behind Kyle Light. Bob Krumm and Bob Mayer finished out the rest of the top five.
Justin Gamber ended up with Justin Woodruff attached to his driver side door while battling for the lead just after completing the first lap of the UMP Bomber C Main which brought out the yellow flag early.
Wade Rick inherited the lead for a short time until Joe Cordes took command on lap two. Cordes went on to earn his second Bomber C Main win of the year.
Chuck Faller finished second with Joe Heffner third. Chris Tressler ended up fourth and Justin Woodruff recovered to finish fifth.
Oakshade Raceway will host its final American Late Model Series event this Labor Day weekend with $2,000 on the line for the feature winner. In addition to the UMP Late Models, the UMP Sportsmen, UMP Bombers and UMP Hornets will fill out the rest of the Saturday night racing program. Gate open at 4pm and racing starts at 7pm.
