Henry Dominates

Jon Henry put on a clinic Saturday night at Oakshade Raceway, dominating the Memorial Night UMP Late Model feature.

Henry started on the pole of the 30-lap feature and immediately opened up a large lead over Rick Delong and the drop of the green flag. The Ada, Ohio driver had and half lap advantage over the rest of the field as he began working through lapped traffic on the way to the checkered flag. Not only did Henry earn his second feature win of the year, but he pocketed all 30 laps worth of Memorial Night lap sponsorship money that went to the leader of each lap.

A great battle ensued a good distance behind Henry for the second position with Rick Delong trying to fend off all contenders. Alan Vochaska and Josh Scott mounted a late race challenge for the position and both got be Delong to finish second and third respectively. Delong slipped back to a fourth place finish followed by Casey Noonan in fifth.

The Memorial Night UMP Sportsman feature was another race highlighted by a dominating performance. Tim Line started on the outside of the front row and took the lead at the start. It was a lead he would not relinquish as he led the entire distance on his way to his first feature win of the year. The only caution flag came out on lap three after Scott Mackenzie smacked the front stretch wall.

Another great battle for the second position went on for a good part of the race between Tim Fisher, B.J. Gregory and George Lindsey who were three-wide at times. In the end Gregory took the second finishing position just ahead of Fisher and Lindsey. Mike Jessen started 11th and worked his way up to a fifth place finish.

Tim Line had to make a quick switch after winning the UMP Sportsman feature to get into his Bomber for UMP Bomber A Main where he would start on the pole. Line took advantage of the great starting position and racked up some more Memorial Night lap sponsorship money leading the first part of the race. Closing in on Line was defending track champion Jim Scout. The two drivers battled side by side for several laps with Scout edging out the lead by lap seven. Eventually Scout was able to clear Line and began to extend the lead on the way to his fourth feature win of the year. Jeff Foks got by line at the checkered flag to finish second pushing Line back to third. Tony Tolles and Jeff Geis Started 12th and 11th respectively and rounded out the rest of the top five finishers.

Brandon Myers led the first lap of the Hornet feature with Drew Smith quickly closing in. “Sparky Marky” Gillingham spun in turn three to bring out the yellow flag just after completing the first lap. Smith took advantage, snatching the lead away from Myers on the restart. Smith looked to be on his way to another feature win, but Derek Morris made a last lap pass to lock up his second feature win of the year. Smith settled for a second place finish with Brandon Myers taking third.

Danny Hogrefe grabbed the lead away from Greg Whitehead on the fifth lap of a caution-filled UMP Bomber B Main and began to pull away. Adam Noonan started deep in the field and closed on Hogrefe near the conclusion of the race, but Hogrefe was able to hang on for his third Bomber B Main victory of the year. Noonan settled for second followed by Garry Domoe, Greg Whitehead and Kyle Light.

Curt Lancaster started at the back of the UMP Bomber C Main and wasted no time getting to the front. Lancaster got into Scott Robertson and moved him out of the way for the lead coming out of turn four on the very first lap. Lancaster had the field covered and went on take the checkered flag. Mike Grames came across the finish line second but did not pass post-race inspection and was disqualified. Shaun Sharp, Dylan Hough, Tom Hannah and Dylan Herman were the rest of the top five finishers.

Oakshade Raceway will host the M&K Metals Bomber Bash on Saturday, July 9 paying $500 to the winner of the UMP Bomber A Main. UMP Late Models, UMP Sportsmen and Hornets will also be back in action with gates opening at 4pm and racing at 7pm.
