Dusty Moore Dominates Oakshade/Attica Late Model Challenge Series Feature

WAUSEON, OH – An ecstatic Dusty Moore out of Swanton, Ohio, dominated the Oakshade/Attica Late Model Challenge Series feature event at Oakshade Raceway on Saturday night picking up his first feature win of the season.

Moore started on the pole and darted out to a sizeable lead early in the 25-lap DIRTcar UMP Late Model main event, but the yellow flag would fly after a Steve Miller spin with one lap complete. Moore was able to repeat his initial start and pull away once again on the restart. With no more caution periods the remainder of the race, Moore eventually caught the tail end of the field and began to meticulously work through lapped traffic. That allowed the battle for second to close the gap behind the race leader ever so slightly. Moore would maintain a decent advantage and made it look easy picking up the win. Colin Shipley got by Drew Smith late in the race to finish in the second position. Rusty Smith finished fourth behind Drew and Terry Rushlow came home fifth.

Carter Murday became the first repeat feature winner this season in the Sportsman class at Oakshade Raceway. It was Jake Gamber gaining the lead at the start after starting on the pole. Murday tracked him down from this third starting position about halfway through the feature event. The Adrian, Michigan, driver then opened up a big lead until an incident involving Josh Corkwell, Karl Spoores, Abby Rendel and Matt Ringger brought out the yellow flag with three laps remaining. Murday pulled away again on the restart on the way to picking up the checkered flag. His second win of the season moves him to within 6 points behind track point leader Jesse Jones. Gamber held off Josh Robertson to finish second with Carter Schlenk and Mike Jessen rounding out the rest of the top five finishers.

Toledo, Ohio’s Dylan Burt led a caution-filled Dominator Super Stock A Main from flag to flag to earn his very first A Main feature victory. Burt started on the pole and began to open up some breathing room ahead of the battle for second. Numerous caution periods kept the field tight. The last of which came out after Kolin Schilt spun in turn two while battling for second with just four laps to go. Adam Noonan mounted a challenge on the restart, but Burt went on to pick up the checkered flag. Noonan held off Scott Hammer for a second-place finish. Last week’s A Main winner, William “Bubba” Cundick, ended up fourth behind Hammer with Roscoe Stetten in fifth.

Aaron VanPelt led the first couple laps of the Compact A Main feature event after starting on the pole. Last week’s B Main winner, Eric Carr out of Wauseon, Ohio, took command of the race on lap three and drove away to his second A Main win of the season. Ryan Okuley got by VanPelt to finish second with VanPelt settling for third. Brett Ireland took fourth and Jason Deshler wound up finishing fifth.

Dan Shaffer from Morenci, Michigan, survived a crash-filled Dominator Super Stock B Main to earn his first feature win of the season. Shaffer started on the outside of the front row and led the entire distance. A huge pile-up in front of the flag stand at the white flag involving Garry Domoe, Kyle Hickman, Haley Dippman and Harriet Callahan would bring out the red flag and set up a one-lap shootout to the finish. Shaffer would hang on to pick up the victory. Chris Bleikamp started deep in the field and got by Josh Overmyer on that final lap to finish second. Josh McNicol and Sam Estes were the rest of the top five finishers.

The evening’s racing would conclude with the Compact B Main. Drivers raced four-wide down the backstretch on the first lap for the lead and Christian Hulbert ended up getting turned around to bring out the caution. Brian Stutzman would lose a wheel while battling in the top five to bring out another caution flag a couple laps later. Dalton Mcvey led the entire event until slowing up a bit in turn two on the final lap. That allowed Chris Yockum from Ft. Wayne, Indiana, to duck to the inside and take the lead coming off turn two. Mcvey would recover and drove back to the outside of Yockum in the final set of corners with Yockum just edging out the win in an exciting side by side finish. Tyler Sandahl finished third with Hulbert recovering for a fourth-place finish. Todd Drewes Jr. started deep in the field and earned a fifth-place finish.

Without the aid of any caution flags, Bores was unable to catch Shiels who led from flag to flag. After the race, Shiels said this was the biggest race win of his career. Rusty Smith posted a third-place finish behind Bores with Jeep Van Wormer and Ryan Missler rounding out the top five finishers.

In Dominator Super Stock A Main action, Craig Dippman took the early lead from his outside front row starting position. Dippman would fade back through the running order with Kolin Schilt taking over second. Schilt dove to the inside of Cundick on the final lap to challenge for the lead and ended up spinning in turn two to bring out the second caution of the race which set up a one-lap shootout to the finish. Cundick would lead Scott Hammer back to the green flag and held on to pick up his first feature win of the season. Hammer settled for second with Chris Bleikamp close behind in third. Adam Noonan finished fourth and Donnie Ringman was fifth.

Casey Noonan Wins Exciting Late Model Feature

WAUSEON, OH – Casey Noonan found his way back to the Oakshade Raceway winner’s circle in another exciting 25-lap DIRTcar UMP Late Model feature event on Saturday night. In other action, the youngster, Carter Schlenk, picked up his very first Sportsman feature win. Kolin Schilt made it three in a row in the Dominator Super Stock A Main and Nick Jenema out of Grand Rapids, Michigan, claimed the Compact A Main win.

Dusty Moore started on the pole of the DIRTcar UMP Late Model feature and pulled out to a big lead after the drop of the green flag. Moore caught the tail end of the lead lap cars just past the halfway point of the race which tightened things up for the lead allowing second-place B.J. Gregory and a couple others to close in. Sylvania, Ohio’s Casey Noonan took advantage and passed Gregory for second on lap 15. Last week’s feature winner joined the party closing in on the leaders while running in the fourth position. Without the aid of any caution flags, the top four ran nose to tail while running in lapped traffic. Noonan got by Moore for the race lead with just five laps remaining and Schlenk moved up to second two laps later. These two drivers had an epic battle for the lead last weekend, but this week it was Noonan coming on out on top with Schlenk settling for second. Gregory finished third and Mike Bores ended up fourth. Defending track champion Devin Shiels had to race his way in through the consolation race and was able to gain 11 positions to finish fifth.

Eleven-year-old Carter Schlenk earned his very first feature win in the Sportsman A Main, leading from flag to flag after starting on the outside of the front row. Last week’s feature winner, Carter Murday, kept the pressure on Schlenk for much of the race, but the McClure, Ohio, driver endured and took the checkered flag. Murday settled for second with Josh Robertson close behind in third. Joe Smith and polesitter Jesse Jones were the rest of the top five finishers.

Stryker, Ohio’s Kolin Schilt made it three for three with Dominator Super Stock A Main wins this season. William “Bubba” Cundick led the first six green-flag laps after starting on the outside of the front row of a caution-filled main event. Schilt closed in from his fifth starting position and drove by on the outside to take the lead away on lap seven. He then set sail on his way to win number three in three attempts. Cundick held on to finish second followed by Dean Taylor, Roscoe Stetten and Justin Gamber who were all in a tight pack at the finish.

The Compact A Main started out with some three-wide racing action for the race lead with Ryan Okuley, Nick Jenema and Eric Carr. Jenema would get the advantage on the outside leaving Okuley and Carr to duke it out for second just behind. Eventually Carr would take the position and then began to pressure Jenema for the lead until getting held up behind a lapped car. Jenema went on to pick up the checkered flag with Carr settling for second and Okuley close behind in third. Brett Ireland and Dylan Iffland rounded out the rest of the top five finishers.

Donovan Paskan out of Fayette, Ohio, took the lead from Scott Barnhart on the second lap of the Dominator Super Stock B Main and went on to pick up the victory with Shane Estes coming from the back of the field to wind up second. Barnhart slipped back to third followed by Craig Turner and Bobby Swagger.

With a field of nearly 40 Compacts, a Compact B Main was necessitated. James Stamper took command early and appeared to have the car to beat, but Jeff Goodman out of Wauseon, Ohio, was on a mission and closed up on Stamper and then over drove turns one and two and lost some ground. Goodman regrouped and came back to make a last lap pass to win an exciting B Main. Stamper came home second with Maria Wells finishing third. Lawrence Mullins ended up fourth with Joe Carr fifth.

The annual Barney Oldfield Race for the DIRTcar UMP Late Models highlights the next event at Oakshade Raceway on Saturday, June 18th. Also back in action will be the Sportsman, Dominator Super Stock and Compact classes with gates opening at 4pm and racing at 7pm.
